Mike Kenitz Memorial Scholarship Award

Mike Kenitz started playing hockey at the early age of 8. He played other sports growing up, but hockey was the only one he truly loved. He was a member of the Mars Hockey Club for 6 years playing middle school, JV and varsity. He played varsity as a freshman in high school and contributed greatly to the team. Mike made the PIHL All-Star team 2 years and scored a goal in his first All-Star game. He was a great leader and was a captain for the varsity team his senior year.

After a great high school career, Mike went on to play college hockey at Slippery Rock University, and was a big part of their national title run in the 2010-2011 season. Mike graduated Cum Lada from SRU in 4 years and won the award for Division 1 Academic All-American.

Mike unfortunately passed away in the summer of 2011. In 2012, the first Mike Kenitz Memorial Golf Outing was held to benefit the Mike Kenitz Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who plans to continue their hockey or sports  career in college or Juniors.  The award is voted on by current and past coaches and senior players based on who has the most influence on them as a person, showed passion for the game and has been a role model.
